strip stripes

Seriously, they're EVERYWHERE. This retro French look has gone wild. I am totally okay with it too. I love the stripes, but make sure you do them right!

I am biased when it comes to the black and white combination, but there are many other color options out there. Another good basic go to, the sailor navy and white. Stripes work for all seasons, so do your thang.

just keep running...

7 weeks in and I am officially at the point now of being able to run in any weather. Give me rain, give me sleet, give me snow, or give me sun and you can find me in Central Park around 7 am, 5 days a week.

I do not love running and I am FAR from being addicted, but I have reached the point where if I don't...I feel lazy. As I continue to run, especially in these winter months, I need a few things to keep me warm, stylish and motivated. I'm not trying to be the Kardashians...you won't see me in full blown makeup and fake eyelashes 'working out'...but I do still try to look cute. Ya never know I might slip on ice and meet my boyfriend.

NYC snow globe

It is a ghost town at the office today. The snow storm hit last night bringing NYC 19 inches of powder.

I really wanted to be on a spring clothing kick, but it's nearly impossible when a storm hits like it did last night. However, shopping for winter towards the end of January has its bonuses. So many retailers are putting winter merchandise on sale now as they start rolling out their spring lines.

Make sure to do some last minute winter shopping. Here are a few things I found, which I know won't break my bank.

spring into NOLA!

So, I totally jumped the gun yesterday with Spain because my trip to New Orleans is right around the corner and I hit this city a few weeks before Europe!!

I have never been to NOLA, but from pictures and talking to my friends (see you soon Cozzone and Quinn!!) it has a definite flare and is unlike any place I have ever been. The city is rich in history and has a passion for food and jazz. Both its warm weather and character spark my mood for spring and all that comes with it. Move over winter, it's time to change gears.

I'm crossing my fingers New Orleans will be sunny and warm. I'll take 50 degrees...I'm not asking for too much people. Let me wear some warm weather gear, and here is what I want.

Espana Amigos

Last night I finally booked my trip to Spain to visit my very dear bff4l Mary!!!

We have been talking about the visit for over a year now and finally it is becoming a reality...we will be spending 6 days in the south of Spain, with a day trip to Morocco, and then 4 days in the north of Spain where Mary lives full time. My roomie/bff will be traveling across the pond with me to join in on the adventure.

Here are a few things I want to accompany me on the trip...other then Klein$ and the smuggled four loko's. Things I know I can wear constantly and/ rotate frequently. Packing light is SO not my thing!

BOLD and BRIGHT

I was reading through February's Harpers and noticed beautiful shoes throughout the entire magazine. These shoes were loud, super high and totally fun. It inspired today's post. We're in the middle of a drab winter, so this pop of color is just what everyone needs to add to their wardrobe and carry it right on into spring.

Check out what I want to help accentuate all the neutrals I've been wearing.

Rain, Rain, Go Away

It’s January 19th and 38 degrees in the city, weird huh? I never thought I would say this, but where is the snow??? We have been getting nailed with gross rain/misty nonsense the past two days.

I am not about rainy days...it’s a difficult thing to be stylish in this type of weather. However, it’s not impossible. Thanks to many brands out there...they are making our lives easier and easier to stay stylish in a torrential downpour.

Here is what I need to help my wardrobe out on a day like today.

Rest and Recover

After a long 3 day weekend all I want right now are some cute new, yet totally comfortable clothes. Outfits I can wear during weekend days when I am out and about running errands and recovering from the previous nights festivities. Casual chic...? Sounds about right.

Here's what I got to get.

Veruca Salt? I don't get it.

The character from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. Veruca Salt is somewhat odious and most definitely a spoiled child who wants it all. This blog focuses on lower price point items I want and can afford right NOW. A whimsical theme; playing off certain characteristics of Miss Veruca Salt and her attitude of "I want (insert item here) now"!
Veruca Salt in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) and in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971)
Veruca Salt: "I want the world. I want the whole world. I want to lock it all up in my pocket. It's my bar of chocolate. Give it to me now..."

Get it? Eh? Anyways...
Happy pay day! Happy MLK weekend!
The start of award season is upon us with fantastic gowns, jewelry and fine looking men in tuxedos. Must be nice...must be nice.
Here are a few more things to help me brighten up the slush of January in the big apple.

So Far So Good

It is all slowly coming together. Numerous kinks to work out and a lot to still learn, but I am really excited about the future of Veruca Salt (thanks D!). Slowly Veruca Salt will evolve, but for now this is my small start.
Ideas and Inspiration are endless...

Fresh Start

This fresh start will be interesting. I'm hoping I can keep it up. Only time will tell.

This won't be a designer's fashion blog, so if that is what you are looking for...next blog friends, next blog. This is more for those of you out there who love fashion and retail AND who still owe that rent check at the beginning of EVERY month.

Everyday I will pick a few items I want NOW. Things I see throughout the day write down and hope to get when that mid month paycheck rolls around. All purchases are fair game; as long as I can afford them...I still don't own one of those credit card things, ha.

So much for that start...

Well, I guess they say...try, try and try again.

I'm back, but things are changing. I do want to try to stay on top of a blog and see what it evolves into. I think I need more of a focus...something I can look forward to blogging about day in and day out.

When I am bored @ work where do I find myself "surfing" the web...fashion blogs and to numerous amounts of store websites to do none other than, online shop. I guess this means I am hopping on the band wagon and taking my own twist and turn to the fashion blogosphere...so here goes nothing...

xoxo
